'Equality and diversity in FE governance', 5 December 2013

Conference objectives:

The conference objectives are for delegates to:

  • consider equality issues in FE Governance in the light that the model Instruments and Articles of Governance have been abolished and Colleges can decide who they want as governors
  • learn about the results of an AoC Survey on the composition of corporations
  • hear about the black and women's perspectives of college governance and to hear from a student governor on how it feels to be probably the youngest person on a governing body
  • to hear about Review and Report  on Creating Excellence in College Governance  undertaken by the AoC Governors' Council
  • to learn how the newly created Education and Training Foundation will support college governors including staff governors
  • tell the author of this Review, Susan Pember what staff governors' needs are for training and support
  • have the opportunity to discuss equality and diversity issues in smaller workshops
  • meet and network with other staff governors.
