Beyond the employability agenda: a statement on teaching in FE
12 May 2015
This statement sets out UCU's priorities and principles in relation to teaching in further education (FE) with the aim of strengthening the value and recognition of teaching in further education.
The paper reflects long-standing UCU Congress/FE sector conference policy on a range of issues such as teaching qualifications and professional development, 'accountability' structures in FE, including student surveys, lesson observations, Ofsted inspections, and, of course, funding and terms and conditions of employment.
The paper seeks to develop an alternative agenda to the employability drive in further education and is complemented by 'Beyond the consumerist agenda' the UCU policy paper on teaching quality and student learning in higher education.
