Lifelong loan entitlement

In February 2022, the UK government ran a consultation on the lifelong loan entitlement, which in England from 2025 will provide individuals with a loan entitlement to the equivalent of four years of post-18 education to use over their lifetime.

UCU's response expressed our 'underlying concerns around the current Lifelong Loan Entitlement (LLE) is that it reinforces the existing bias in education along class divides i.e. that full-time higher education is the realm of the more well-off, whereas part-time skills training is the option available for those from less well-off backgrounds'.

We also argue that 'it is imperative that the voice of employers in education is not given more weight or value than that of professional educators.'
