International Day Against Homophobia
8 May 2008
LGB Rights in Europe
Saturday 17 May 2008
With the backdrop of attacks on LGB people and LGB rights in some areas of Eastern Europe and negative statements creeping further West this meeting will set an agenda and action plans to campaign for extension of rights and protections against homophobia in Europe.
The EU had promised a Single Equality Directive that would cover all strands but have said this may not happen and Sexual Orientation will not be covered. The EU has led many of the reforms over the recent years and this lack of leadership could have significant implications across the whole of Europe.
