HE pay offer consultations

23 July 2009

The national employers' organisation, the Universities & Colleges Employers Association (UCEA), made their final offer on 15 July. The HE unions have condemned this offer on pay and job security as 'appalling'. Sector conference agreed that there should be thorough consultation with branches on any future action. In line with that decision, meetings for branch/LAs are being arranged for the following locations and dates:

  • Birmingham: 29 September
  • Edinburgh: 30 September
  • Manchester: 1 October
  • London: 2 October

It is suggested that branches/LAs attend meetings (2 officers per branch) at the location indicated below.

UCU's national head of higher education will attend each of the meetings and will provide an update on the negations but, much more importantly, the meetings provide an opportunity for branches/LAs to provide valuable feedback on members' reaction to the employers' offer on pay and job security.

Further details, including the exact location and times and details for registration, will be circulated as soon as possible. However, in the meantime branches/LAs are asked to make a note of the relevant meeting; consider who will attend on their behalf, and should start thinking about how to gauge members' views.
