Good news on growth from Aberdeen and Lancaster

17 June 2013

We've had good reports in from our branches at Aberdeen and Lancaster universities. Firstly, Lancaster have sent us a report detailing how they use their regular lists of new starters at the university to develop regular targeted letters of introduction from the union, tailoring them to the employment, contract and discipline of each new starter. They've also made targeted recruitment of researchers a priority for a while, building their recruitment on being seen to actively campaign for this staff group. Lancaster are another of our branches who are successfully bucking the national trend and have seen steady growth over the last year, showing the benefits of regular, systematic and targeted approaches to recruiting.

Great news from Aberdeen meanwhile, where as we've reported before, the branch has instituted an impressive recruitment plan aimed at generating an overall growth in membership for the year of 5%. The good news is that they have beaten their target for the academic year and are well on track to beat their calendar year target too, recruiting two new contacts and two new caseworkers into the bargain.
